Legare   3 1/2  Machine

4 cylinders,  3 ribber dials

This machine has cylinders that are 3 1/2 inches wide  ( the normal sock machines are 4 1/2 inches )  This is a very rare, maybe one of a kind machine.

If you are looking for a machine to knit baby socks  this is the machine for you. 

The machine may knit small socks but this machine is one BIG machine, with all it's cylinders, ribbers it weighs in at over 60 pounds.  This is why I am calling him  "Little Big Man"   

All cylinders and ribber dials knit  see the many photos below showing all the knitting.  Yarn used was a 2/24 a fine yarn, this machine will not knit with standard sock yarn  it wants a finer yarn.  The cylinder and ribber needles are 18 gauge.  There are a couple dings on the cylinders and the ribber dials  these do not effect the knitting.  It has not been repainted it still retains it's antique look.  There is a needle latch opener on the ribber dial to ensure the latches are open.

This machine has been mechanically restored,  and is knitting and ribbing see the additional photos below. 

This machine has it's original paint, and retains it's antique look.  It knits, ribs, and has been making heels/toes.
