this if you wear any of the magnetic or Ionized bracelets for pain.
There has been talk about
ribber needles becoming magnetize I have
never seen this occur
till today. A customer brought her machine over for a class.
We made a ribbed top sock, and then started to make the mate for the
sock and the ribber just started to drop stitches.
The normal way the ribber
needles work is the ribber needle will extend out, as it is
extending out the latch passes under the stitch, this is what causes
the latch to open. The the hook will grab the new yarn, the
needle then retracts in and as the needle comes back in contact with
the previous stitch the latch then closes on the new yarn and pulls
it in and creates the stitch.

You can see the stitch on the needle. And the
latch closed

After much investigating,
watching the ribber
very closely and
turning the crank ever so slow. Could actually watch the
latches close when they extended all the way out.
The latches would be open as they came out from the stitch, then in
a split second would snap closed. The needle was fully
extended out and far away from the stitch so nothing should have
made that latch close. These were brand new needles, right out
of the bag. I could knit a row and the needle would drop the
stitch, then knit a row or 2 and it would work OK.
As I cranked faster more
ribber needles would start dropping stitches. It was almost
like I was causing a magnetic field to create or something. It
started out with one needle, the faster I cranked more and more
dropped till I only had 5-6 needles still ribbing. The needles
all were acting the same way, the latches would snap closed after
they passed the stitch and were open.

Then took a couple of the
needles out of the machine and held then by each other, and was able
to make the latches move just by having the 2 needles by each other.
Could make the latch open and close by moving the one needle.
Was the strangest thing I have seen. The needle latches truly
were magnetized.
My customer did have on a
Q-Ray Ionized bracelet when making the first sock. And I
believe this bracelet magnetized the needles, the ribber
tappet or dial and caused the latches to close, thus causing the
dropped stitches.
Q-Ray Warning
Information
- You must take off the bracelet: While working with high
voltage machinery or during medical examination and treatment
with electronic instruments especially X-Rays (Airport X-Ray is
acceptable) or while using electric blankets, or magnetic
products.
- Do not leave the bracelet on metal or electronic surfaces.
Do not wear in tanning bed.
- Do not wear it in contact with other metals or with a watch.
Rings may be worn.
- Do not lend the bracelet to another person, for each
bracelet develops a memory cycle specific to each individual
wearer.
- Do not wear it in salt water, this may effect the plating.
You may wear the bracelet during bathing.
- Do not allow the ends of the bracelet to come in contact
with one another.
